ANGUS HOPS THE TRAIN TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR NORTHLANDER: Pays Tribute to Hard Working ONR Employees
September 27th, 2012 - 6:40pm
Charlie Angus will ride the northlander train tomorrow (fri) on its last scheduled trip. During Question Period today, Angus paid tribute to the men and women working the Northlander.
“For over 100 years, the train has been the backbone of economic development. It opened up our region. It has been our lifeline in times of bush fires and tragedies.”
Angus says New Democrats believe in the people of the north. “We believe in sustainable communities and reliable public transit. I would like to thank the employees of the ONTC who have provided such great service to our region.”
MPP Gilles Bisson wonders why the north is being treated differently than the south. “In southern Ontario, governments call subsidies an investment…but in the north subsidies are a hindrance. How is that fair treatment?”
Angus and Bisson encourage northerners to continue to put pressure on Dalton McGuinty.
“The fight is not over as long as the tracks are still there. But we can’t sit back and take it anymore. It’s time to say enough is enough.”
