June 8th, 2011 - 2:39pm
Charlie Angus has been chosen as the new Ontario caucus chair in Jack Layton’s shadow cabinet. Angus was voted chair at a meeting of Ontario MPs. The role of the chair will be to co-ordinate issues in the Ontario region and engage in regular meetings with the party leader on ensuring that the voice of Ontario’s regions continues to be heard in the riding.
Angus says he is pleased to take on this new role.
“This is the largest Ontario caucus in the history of the New Democratic Party. We have a real opportunity to bring forward ideas that will represent a strong alternative to the wrong-headed direction of the Harper government.”
Angus says the Ontario caucus will work closely with municipal organizations on issues of infrastructure. As well, they will be working on economic and resource issues.
“As official opposition we have a much larger role to play in the House of Commons. The Ontario caucus will work as a team and we will hold the Harper government to account.”
Angus is also the NDP’s spokesman on digital, ethics and privacy issues.
