A number of large national health organizations are now on board with the New Democratic Party’s push for a national palliative care strategy. Charlie Angus is leading a parliamentary fight for a national strategy on improving access to palliative and hospice care with his parliamentary Motion 456.
Angus says he is pleased to receive support national organizations representing physicians, pharmacists and groups working with the elderly.
“All across Canada we see the need for quality palliative care. The federal government has a key role to play in working with the Provinces and territories on improving health care services. I am working closely with the medical and social organizations who are on the front lines of this important issue.”
The Following are a few of the organizations who have signed on to support the motion:
Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association
Centre for Education and Research on Aging and Health (CERAH)
College of Family Physicians of Canada
Canadian Pharmacist Association
Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists
Angus says the upcoming debate on palliative care will be an important milestone for this Parliament.
“Ottawa has been missing in action on this file for too long. The New Democrats are bringing this issue to the House to get support for a national strategy to assure quality, community and family-based care for our loved ones.”
