Charlie Angus Statement On Jack Layton

Charlie Angus would like to thank the people of Timmins-JamesBay for the incredible outpouring of emotion following the death of New Democrat Leader Jack Layton. Angus and staff will have a book of condolences for people in the region to sign. Area residents can come by either the Timmins or Kirkland Lake constituency office to sign the book.

Angus says people are deeply affected by Jack’s loss. “We are devastated by the news. Jack wasn’t just a great leader, he was a personal friend. Jack believed in people. He brought compassion and hope to the sometimes cynical world of politics. He believed that the only way to move forward was to find the connections that bring people together, rather than dwell on the issues that divide us.

Angus says Jack Layton loved Northern Ontario. “Jack had so many friends in the north. He loved our people, the land and the spirit of the north. I have a beautiful photograph of us standing on Lake Fredrickhouse at sunset. We were driving back from Iroquois Falls on the back road when Jack suddenly said ‘stop the car.’ He made us get out and admire the spectacular sunset on the northern waters. Jack never lost sight of the beauty in the moment.”
