Conservatives ripping off the north with Unspent FedNor Funds : Conservatives under spent Fednor by 11 million after under spending Veterans Affairs by 1.1 billion

Following this Conservative government keeping 1.1 billion in unspent funds from our veterans, Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus blasted the Conservative government for allowing nearly $11 million in economic development money forNorthern Ontario to go unspent over the past four years. This Conservative government is failingNorthern Ontariosays Angus.

“Northern Ontario needs this economic development funding with a forestry sector losing more than 40,000 jobs under a Conservative government and the Ring of Fire still stuck in neutral. This money was approved by parliament and accounted for in the federal budget, but for some reason minister Rickford has chosen to send it back to the treasury instead of putting the funds toward economic growth in our region.”

Public Accounts documents show that for the eight year period from 2000 to 2008 a total of just $213 went unspent in the budget at FedNor, but that figure has skyrocketed over the past four years of a Conservative majority government to nearly $11 million.

“This Conservative government has been clear that cuts and unspent funds for our Veterans and now for Northern Ontario’s economic development are being made to fund their income splitting scheme that more than 85% of Canadian families receive absolutely nothing from.”
