Fundraising Drive For Attawapiskat Furniture

Efforts are underway to ensure that the tent families ofAttawapiskatare given a new start in life. A fundraising drive is taking place to buy furniture for each of the 22 new modular homes being delivered to the community. The effort is being coordinated by the EHL Homes (the builders of the modular homes), True North Aid and the office of  Charlie Angus.

Angus says he’s received calls from people acrossCanadawho want to help. He is putting them in touch with the northern aid organization True North Aid. They are coordinating the drive with EHL HOMES to help furnish the homes.

We want the families living in tents to get a new start. The children shouldn’t be sleeping on moldy mattresses. This is a great project and we are encouraging people to get involved.”

Angus says the first donation has already come in from the Union of Taxation Employees in Ottawa. The union, which represents 27,000 workers at Canada Revenue, has donated $5,000 to the cause.

“I was thrilled to get the call from the Taxation Employees. They raised the money for Attawapiskat and this will go a long way towards helping furnish the new homes.”
