NEW DEMOCRATS END CONSERVATIVES FREE HOCKEY TICKET GIVEAWAYS FOR INSIDERS

New Democrats have forced the Conservative government to end the perks of free sports tickets to pals of Canada Post and Via Rail. After the NDP grilled Transport Minister Lisa Rait in the House of Commons, she was forced to end these free sports ticket giveaways delivered under “business development and promotional activities” programs.
Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says Conservatives were telling senior citizens that they had to walk through the snow for their mail because they need the exercise, and Canada Post just cannot afford to deliver it. However, Angus says Canada Post could afford to give out hundreds of pro hockey tickets to their insiders and pals.
The government still hasn’t said whether they will allow other federally owned crown corporations, such as the EDC and BDC to these kinds of free perks. They were both found to be sending clients and employees to sports games.
“New Democrats are going to continue to hold the Harper Government’s feet to the fire because they can’t be trusted to respect the taxpayer. Canadians are taking the brunt of Conservative cuts while Conservative pals get free sports tickets.”
