ON THE PASSING OF JOE MAVRINAC – VANTHOF AND ANGUS

Timmins- Northern Ontario has lost a legend with the passing of former mayor Joe Mavrinac. For decades he was the face of Kirkland Lake and his life personified the history and development of this gold mining town.

MP Charlie Angus says that Mavrinac’s life reads like a history of the development of the north.

"Joe was a Kirkland Laker through and through. His family was a part of the huge influx of East European settlers who helped build this region. He served our country during the war. He gave years of public service in fighting for a fair deal for Kirkland Lake. Joe and I didn’t always agree but I always knew he had the interests of the region at heart.

MPP John Vanthof says Mr. Mavrinac’s relentless work on behalf of Kirkland Lake was truly admirable.

“People across Ontario knew of Kirkland Lake because they knew Joe Mavrinac. He was a champion for his community and he wasn’t afraid to drop the gloves to fight for what he believed in. In the good times and the hard times Joe was there for the people of Kirkland Lake.”
