ANGUS AND VANTHOF INVITE PUBLIC TO MEETING ON ONR

2012 06 07 - Press Releases

Charlie Angus and Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof are inviting residents to come to a meeting on the future of the ONR Sunday in Englehart.

Angus says the sell-off of the ONTC will have huge repercussions for growth in Northeastern Ontario.

"The ONTC is one of the key development tools for the north. It is important for people to get active in the fight to save this vital transportation link. This meeting will be a chance to update people on the status of the sell-off and options that exist for pushing back."

Vanthof says he is looking forward to updating residents on the role the provincial NDP are playing in pushing back against the McGuinty agenda.

Ontario New Democrats have been leading the fight at Queen's Park to maintain this important public transportation link with the rest of the Province. We have been working with municipal leaders and the railway workers to push back against Dalton McGuinty's shortsighted sell off of this key piece of northern infrastructure."

Vanthof says the Ontario NDP is calling for a separate vote on the sell-off of the ONTC but the Liberals are refusing. “DaltonMcGuinty is allowing MPP’s to vote on any further sell-off except for the ONTC.”

The meeting is on Sunday, June 10th at 1pm at the community hall, above the arena, in Englehart.
