FUNDING NOW AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL RECREATIONAL AND CULTURAL FACILITIES

2012 07 16 - Press Releases

Applications are now being accepted for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. Charlie Angus says the fund provides money for the repair and improvement of community infrastructure facilities.

This is an opportunity to upgrade or expand our existing parks, libraries, arenas, community halls and other recreational and cultural facilities. These facilities are not always priorities for municipal spending so this program can be of great assistance.

Organizations eligible to apply include:

  • local or regional governments or related agencies;
  • provincial entities that provide municipal-type services to communities;
  • not-for-profit organizations;
  • First Nation governments, including Band or Tribal Councils or their legally-designated representatives.

Angus says this will improve the quality of community facilities. “There is only about $50-million dollars available over the next 2 years so communities should get their applications rolling right away.”

The Fund supports the rehabilitation and improvement of existing community infrastructure that is non-commercial and accessible for use by the public. Applications are being accepted for projects until 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on August 24, 2012. All projects are to be completed by March 2014.
