Today’s release of the first Canadian Infrastructure Report Card by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) shows that overburdened cities need the federal government to commit to adequate infrastructure funding to tackle deteriorating municipal roads and water systems.

"Bridges dropping concrete and highway sinkholes swallowing cars are not freak accidents but symptomatic of the crumbling infrastructure across Canada,” said Charlie Angus. “The Harper Conservatives have neglected Canada’s roads, water and transit systems and Canadians are paying the price.”

Applications are now being accepted for the Enabling Accessibility Fund. The EAF supports community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, remove barriers, and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their communities.

Students in Timmins-James Bay are getting the chance to work in the heritage sector this year thanks to Young Canada Works. The Museum of Northern History in Kirkland Lake has been approved for 2 positions while the Englehart and Area Historical Museum gets 1.

Charlie Angus says the federal government program works in partnership with the Canadian Museum Association.

New Democrat Ethics critic Charlie Angus called on the Conservative government to work with the Official Opposition and finally clean up the appointments process once and for all.

“Despite repeated promises to clean up patronage, Conservatives continue to use the appointments process to reward failed candidates and other partisans,” said Angus. “After spending years criticizing Liberals, when elected Conservatives started doing the exact same thing. Nothing has changed.”

On behalf of Canada's Official Opposition, I offer my sincere congratulations to Shawn A-in-chut Atleo on his re-election as the head of the Assembly of First Nations. I look forward to continuing to work with National Chief Atleo.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank all the candidates for putting their names forward.
