Applications are now being accepted for the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. Charlie Angus says the fund provides money for the repair and improvement of community infrastructure facilities.

This is an opportunity to upgrade or expand our existing parks, libraries, arenas, community halls and other recreational and cultural facilities. These facilities are not always priorities for municipal spending so this program can be of great assistance.

Organizations eligible to apply include:

Charlie Angus will re-release the award-winning photo-documentary “Cage Call” at the Timmins Voices event at Christopher’s Coffee House next Thursday.  The book, written with photographer Louie Palu won the prestigious Photolucinda Award for Photojournalism in Seattle, Washington in 2007.  The book documents life in hardrock mining communities of the north.

Citizens who are concerned about the future of the ONTC are invited to come to a public meeting on Monday at the Centennial Hall, next to the Mountjoy Arena. The meeting will update residents on the implications of the planned sell-off of the Ontario Northland Railway. As well, there will be information on the campaign to stop the sell-off.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says if people are concerned about the future of the ONR they need to get active.

Minister Bev Oda has resigned from the Conservative Cabinet after years of ethics scandals and wasteful spending. In response, New Democrats are pointing to the many questions left unanswered and asserting that this does nothing to restore accountability to Stephen Harper’s Cabinet.

Timmins-James Bay New Democrats made a donation to the Lord’s Kitchen in Timmins Thursday morning. Charlie Angus will be on hand to present the charitable group with 2 cases of Thornloe Cheese plus 2 cases of fine assorted crackers and bottled water.

Angus says the cheese was purchased for the NDP’s Northern Council Wine Tasting evening that was cancelled due to forest fires. “We made the decision to hand over all of our hotel rooms to Ministry of Natural Resources crews. We felt it was the right thing to do to help the situation.”
