New Democrats are calling on the Minister of Justice to commit to funding the Aboriginal Justice Strategy (AJS) to ensure that the vital work they do to combat crime in First Nations communities continues.
Charlie Angus says it appears Bev Oda can`t help herself when it comes to living large off the taxpayer. The Minister of International Development has once again
found herself in hot water over lavish spending while at a convention in London
about helping the poor. Angus says the ‘Champagne Minister’ has a history of abusing the taxpayer`s dime.
“This is the same minister who threw money around carelessly while she was Heritage Minister. She ran up outrageous limousine bills.”
ANGUS GETS VOTE OF SUPPORT FROM NEW LEADER
Charlie Angus will continue in his role as party critic for Ethics. Leader Tom Mulcair announced his new shadow cabinet yesterday and Angus remains in the high-profile position.
“I am honoured to be trusted with this very important portfolio. My role is to hold the government accountable and ensure taxpayers’ dollars are properly spent.”
Angus says Mulcair is really sending a message. “This is about holding the government to account. This is about showing that we are serious about forming government.”

Charlie Angus officially made the call for nominations for the Queen`s Diamond Jubilee Medal. The medal will be awarded to people in the riding who have gone above and beyond in their communities. Angus says we are looking for the unsung heroes.
“We really want to honor those people that sometimes fly under the radar. The
people who give of themselves without asking for anything in return.”

Recent budget cuts, including 5-million to Fed Nor grants and contributions, show that the Harper Government has no plan for growth and development in the north. The arbitrary cuts across the region, including in the Conservative held ridings of North Bayand Sault Ste. Marie will mean significant job losses and reduced services.
