Charlie's Posts

Charlie Angus wants to know why the Conservative omnibus bill is declaring open season on Canada's lakes and rivers while protecting lakes in Conservative ridings. Of Canada's 30,000 lakes only 97 are being given environmental protection and almost all are in Conservative ridings.

Angus says he was shocked to learn that 12 of these lakes are in the riding of Treasury Board President Tony Clement.

Charlie Angus says the Federal government is failing the front line officers of NAPS (Nishnawbe Aski Police). NAPs serve the First Nation communities of Nishnawbe Aski Nation inNorthern Ontario. Chronic under-funding and under staffed units are leaving both officers and communities at risk. In a letter to Justice Minister Vic Toews, Angus calls on the Federal government to work with its funding partner (Ontario) in providing adequate support for NAPs.

Re:       Adequate Policing Resources for Nishnawbe Aski Police Service

Dear Minister Toews,

NDP Democratic and Parliamentary Reform critic, Craig Scott, (Toronto-Danforth) introduced a bill in the House of Commons today to prevent fraudulent election voice messages.

Charlie Angus is inviting people to a public meeting about proposed Electoral Boundary Changes. The meeting, being held in New Liskeard this Monday (Oct 15th), will examine proposed federal boundary changes.

Under the proposed plan, the Timiskaming region will be divided along the Englehart area and moved to the riding of Nickel Belt. At the same time, the new riding of Timmins-Cochrane James Bay will be made larger in population than the urban riding of Sudbury.

Angus says the public has a right to be heard.
