Angus Calls on MPS to Support Palliative Approach

The vote on Charlie Angus’ NDP Motion to establish a Pan-Canadian Strategy on Palliative and End of Life Care will be next Wednesday, (May 28th.) Angus says, as Canada's population ages and stresses appear in the medical system, a coherent strategy for palliative and end of life care becomes increasingly important across Canada.

“Palliative care is the common sense solution staring politicians in the face. The New Democratic Party believes Parliament needs to take the issue of palliative services seriously. We are calling on all MPs to work with us on bringing forward a national plan for palliative support."

The NDP motion is calling for the federal government to take a leadership role in working with the provinces to develop a flexible and integrated Pan-Canadian strategy on Palliative Care, which takes into account familial, cultural, and spiritual concerns of all Canadians.

Angus says he has heard from people across Canada who are looking to Parliamentarians to show leadership.

“This is an issue that touches every Canadian and leaves an impact on every single family. Where good palliative options exist, families are able to make these difficult transitions. Where the services are fragmented, too many people fall through the cracks just when they need support the most."
