TURMEL HEADS TO ATTAWAPISKAT: Leader to Tour Crisis

Federal New Democratic Party Leader Nycole Turmel will be flying to Attawapiskat Tuesday to meet with residents and First Nations leaders. Turmel's visit comes as the Red Cross moves into the community to begin coordinating relief efforts.

Charlie Angus says the situation in Attawapiskat has outraged Canada.

Canadians want action from their government. Madame Turmel will meet with the families and see the conditions first hand. The Conservative government must take this issue seriously. We will make sure they live up to their obligations to help find a long-term solution."

Angus says he is encouraging people to make donations to the Red Cross Attawapiskat relief at www.redcross.ca or 1-800-418-1111.

Turmel lands in Timmins Monday night. She will visit Attawapiskat on Tuesday, returning to Ottawa Tuesday night.
